Celebrating the Marathon with a Hoppin' Frog
When you're running 26.2 miles, you have lots of free time to ponder random things. One of the things I considered during last Sunday's marathon was "what kind of beer am I going to have to celebrate this accomplishment??". Granted I had a Sam Adams after the race, but that wasn't my true celebration brew. I knew this would require a trip to Julio's Liquors and a careful selection.
Fortunately my Julio's trip didn't take long. As a certified hop head, this beer practically jumped (pun intended) off the shelf and landed in my arms. Allow me to introduce you to Hoppin' Frog Hop Dam Triple IPA. Yes, TRIPLE IPA. I'm anticipating a full-blown hop assault later this evening, and I'm going to savor every minute of it. Having enjoyed several other Hoppin' Frog selections in the past, I'm confident this one won't disappoint.
Cheers!!

I wanted to like this Hoppin' Frog, I really did. But the best way I can describe this beer is as follows: Hoppin' Frog Hop Dam Triple IPA is the J.D. Drew of craft beers. Like Drew, Hoppin' Frog has a high price tag ($19.99 for this 22-oz bottle) that cannot be ignored when grading its performance. If this beer were $6.99 (and if Drew made $7 million instead of $14 million), I might be able to ignore some of its shortcomings. Unfortunately this beer simply did not live up to its tremendous potential. The stat geeks will point to some of the impressive numbers on its label: 10% ABV; BeerAdvocate.com avg review of 4.31; IBU so high it can't be rated. But don't let the numbers affect what your eyes, nose, & taste buds tell you. Like our buddy J.D., the Hoppin' Frog Hot Dam Triple will leave you wanting more.
