The NFL Network and Charter

Dear NFL Network and Charter,

Let's review the facts: It's Thanksgiving. I'm an NFL fan. Tonight there will be a football game on the NFL Network between the Giants and the Broncos. I will not be watching the game.

Why?

Because the only cable option available at my home is Charter, and Charter does not carry the NFL Network.

Recently I complained about this fact on Twitter, blaming Charter for my inability to watch a Thursday night NFL game. Their Twitter support team was nice enough to respond with this message:

OK, I get it. Blame the NFL, not Charter. Fine. But here's the thing: at the end of the day, I STILL CAN'T WATCH FOOTBALL. And to be completely honest- I'm selfish. Watching football is all I care about in this situation. I don't care how much the NFL wants to charge Charter to carry its network. I don't care about the nuances of how Charter structures its tiered packages. I don't care how much money anyone makes off any deal. All I want is the option to watch an NFL game. Period. If that option costs me extra money on my cable bill, I'll consider paying it. Just give me the option!!!

I know both the NFL Network and Charter employ smart people. I'm going to assume these smart people have access to conference rooms, phone lines, and the internet. Here's a proposal for these smart people: start talking and make this happen. Give me the NFL Network. I'm tired of hearing about whose fault it is. The finger pointing is lame and childish. I don't want instructions on how to contact the NFL Network to complain on behalf of Charter, and I don't want instructions on how to contact Charter to complain on behalf of the NFL Network. Just work with each other and stop playing the blame game.

Sincerely,
Charter Cable Customers Who Want the NFL Network

Mike Vrabel's Sunny Disposition

Overheard on Tanguay & Zolak's 98.5 The Sports Hub show around 1:15pm today, as the hosts were discussing the merits of the Patriots' trip to London this weekend:

Zolak: The Patriots were going to play a preseason game in China, right?
Tanguay: Right.
Zolak: [Mike] Vrabel was a big fan of that one, wasn't he?
Tanguay: Is Vrabel a fan of anything?

For once Gary Tanguay's sarcastic tone was well-placed. Seriously, does any NFL player come off as more of a curmudgeon than Mike Vrabel?? No wonder Belichick traded him for a bag of footballs.

Why I'm glad my girls will never play football...
